The White House criticized tech mogul Elon Musk on Friday for endorsing an antisemitic social media post, labeling it the “absolute truth.” White House spokesman Andrew Bates stated that it is unacceptable to perpetuate the false narrative linked to the most fatal act of Antisemitism in American history, particularly just a month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.
Musk’s apparent endorsement of the antisemitic post came in response to a user on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, expressing concern about the rising antisemitism. The user posted a message confronting those endorsing hateful sentiments, and Musk responded by stating, “You have said the actual truth.”
Bates emphasized that the White House will continue to condemn antisemitism, which has seen an uptick since the conflict between Israel and Hamas sparked in the aftermath of the surprise Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
Referring to President Biden’s previous remarks on the matter, Bates stated, “We condemn this abhorrent promotion of Antisemitic and racist hate in the strongest terms, which runs against our core values as Americans.”
He stressed the responsibility of Americans to unite against hate and speak out against any actions compromising the dignity of fellow citizens and the safety of communities.
X did not immediately respond to the White House’s statement.
The endorsement by Musk aligns with false conspiracy theories suggesting that Jews aim to inundate the country with minorities. Musk faced immediate online scrutiny for his post. In a subsequent X post, Musk targeted the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), accusing them of unjustly attacking the majority of the West, despite the majority supporting the Jewish people and Israel. This post extended Musk’s ongoing feud with the ADL, which he has criticized for falling ad revenue.
